It Was 1,281 Days Ago

Go back 1,281 days and you'll find the day of my first blog post. The blog was all about needing to lose weight as I tipped the scales at 225 pounds back on February 23, 2006. Here we are 42 months later and my weight is just about the same as when I started. Three and a half years without gaining weight isn't really a success when one is maintaining a level of obesity.

There were the early successes. I went back and found these dates and numbers:

---February 23, 2006--225 pounds (this was as high as 230 prior to starting the blog)
---March 25, 2006--215 pounds
---April 24, 2006--205 pounds
---June 11, 2006--195 pounds
---July 17, 2006--189 pounds
---August 15, 2006--186.5 pounds (this was my lowest weigh-in)

After that the weight loss stopped. I stayed in the 190-195 range for a while. Writing about trying to lose weight became boring so the blog switched over to other topics. Before too long the weight range was 195-200, then 200-210, then a long period at 215, and I was at 225 pounds again on November 26, 2007 when another weight loss blog was started.

We are closing in on 2 years since the start of that second blog. The lowest I've been in those two years was one day at 214.5 pounds. More days have been spent in the 220's than the 210's. How is it that I was able to lose almost 40 pounds in 6 months and now I've been able to lose virtually nothing for 2 years? You know the answer and it is a single word: ACCOUNTABILITY. You know what it was that held me accountable and enabled me to lose so much weight and it's two simple words: FOOD JOURNAL.

I have to get back to the food journal so that's now going to be a daily part of this blog. I'm not going back to the beginning when the blog was only about losing weight, but there's a real need to bring the weight loss aspects back to the main blog. So let's go back to the beginning. Help me out by expecting a food journal each day and getting on my case if I screw up. That worked in the past and I need it to work again--it's the only thing that has proven successful and I need that success back in my life more than ever.

Diet Section:
---Today's weight: 223 pounds
---Yesterday's Food Journal: bagel(330)--yogurt(100)--soup(360)--apple(125)--ice cream(160)--rice(625)--apple(125) = 1,825 calories
---Walked 3+ miles
---Stretched 20 minutes

Frank, Way to go!! Love to see that stretching in there. Progress will be slow with the stretching so don't get discouraged. Keep it up!

I was sitting on the floor, thinking that the sensible thing was to stretch one leg at a time. That allows a person to cheat a little on their reach since they can rotate a little and therefore reach a little farther. The "good" news is that I was able to reach past my kneecap--the bad news is that it wasn't that much past my kneecap.

Looking for the silver lining, one has to think that getting my flexability to the point where I can reach my toes will do wonders--if it doesn't kill me first. As much as I hate stretching, I must admit that my memory holds nothing about people actually dieing from stretchng exercises. Hope I'm not the first.

Frank.
