-----The folks in Belgium think they make the best chocolate in the world. If you travel to Belgium you'll see plenty of stores that specialize in gourmet chocolate. I doubt that you'll find Cote d'Or chocolate in any of those stores. It's a chocolate found in grocery stores, used mostly for making hot chocolate and in everyday cooking. Despite it's humble standing in the ranks of Belgium chocolate, you couldn't buy any chocolate in the world that thrills me more than Cote d'Or.
This is the chocolate of my childhood and the finest ingredients in the world couldn't combine to top the memories and joy that come from Cote d'Or. The taste brings back memories of childhood summers spent in Belgium. Memories of my grandmother, my Bonne Maman (pictured above in a photo from 1978), reaching into a kitchen cabinet and breaking off a piece of chocolate for me and my siblings. It is a unique taste associated with a unique and wonderful time.
It just goes to show that dollar value and the true worth of an object are often wildly different. Things I value highly are often things of little monetary value. A gift given by a friend. A purchase that signifies a shared moment. A memory of time spent together, or an unexpected and greatly appreciated comment. Those who equate value with a price tag are missing the things of greatest value in this world. What matters the most is the life we live, not the things we acquire. You can keep your Godiva Chocolates and leave me the Cote d'Or--I'll get world class pleasure with every bite.

Last night was the Wednesday night get together of the guys. The bar we normally go to was packed so we ended up at the home of one of the guys. That was nice and it took away the temptation of the dreaded bowl of nuts. Yesterday was a day full of temptations and I consider it a huge success that the calorie count barely topped 2,000.
Diet Section:
---Weight Thursday Morning: 223 pounds
---Food Wednesday: bagel(330)--yogurt(100)--soup(400)--pineapples(320)--3 light beers(300)--2 Whopper Jr. Burgers (700) = 2,150 calories.
---No walking and no stretching. Got home and got to bed by 9. Trying to get 8 hours of sleep is something I should try more often.

Way to go Frank!! Good job on resisting the temptations and getting back on track in general.
I really enjoy your blog. You are an interesting person and a good friend. I also like to keep up with what is going on in Jackson and somewhat with the Millsaps community. Although the best part are the Up close and personal bios you do of the coaches and players. It somewhat gives me hope for our future. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Rusty. The number of temptations that pop up every day are amazing and even if a person resists 75% of the time, that 25% of giving in can wreck a diet.
In all honesty, I believe my weight loss failures over the last couple of years has come from thinking that the 75% of being good was enough and failing to acknowledge just how much damage was being done by the times I gave in. The food journal closes up most of those loopholes. It's really the only way that I'll get the weight off and keep it off.
Frank.
